Family:AIZOACEAE
Weed description
The plant is one of the most conspicuous and aggressive weeds of cultivation in South India. It thrives well in both dry and garden lands. Branches are rising from every node. Leaves are slightly fleshy in opposite unequal pairs. Flowers are solitary sessile and seated in the pouch like petiolar sheath of similar leaf. The plant spreads with remarkable rapidity on account of the numerous seeds produced.
CONTROL
- Never allow the plants to mature seed. In fields badly infested with the weed always have an eye for the seedlings and destroy them.
- Intercultural operations reduce the incidence of the weed in tobacco.
- Hand weeding before setting the seed.
